Leeds United are looking to secure Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future at Elland Road by offering the striker a new contract, with the club keen to protect one of their most important attacking players amid growing interest from elsewhere.

Calvert-Lewin’s current contract runs until June 2028, but Leeds are understood to be keen to open discussions over improved terms as they look to avoid entering the final stages of his deal without an agreement in place.

The 29-year-old joined Leeds from Everton on a free transfer last summer and made an immediate impact during his first season at the club.

Calvert-Lewin scored 14 goals and provided one assist in 35 Premier League appearances, establishing himself as an important figure in Leeds’ attack.

His form has continued into the current campaign. The striker has scored three goals in his first five Premier League appearances, maintaining the scoring form that has made him such a valuable asset to Daniel Farke’s side.

Manchester United have also monitored Calvert-Lewin as a potential option in attack. However, despite discussions around recruitment, the Manchester club have reportedly moved away from pursuing the striker and have ruled out a January move, with their focus understood to have shifted towards other areas of the squad.

For Leeds, however, the situation remains one that requires attention.

With Calvert-Lewin contracted until June 2028, the club would enter the summer of 2027 with the striker having just one year remaining on his deal if a new agreement has not been reached.

That would potentially put Leeds in a difficult negotiating position. The club would have to weigh up whether to sell with 12 months remaining on his contract or risk losing a proven Premier League goalscorer for nothing the following summer.

Replacing Calvert-Lewin would also carry its own uncertainty. Any replacement would require a significant investment, while there would be no guarantee that a new signing could immediately reproduce the level of impact the striker has provided since arriving at Elland Road.

For Leeds, extending Calvert-Lewin’s contract would therefore offer greater certainty over the future of a forward who has already demonstrated his value to the team.

The striker’s strong start to the season is likely to strengthen Leeds’ desire to reach an agreement sooner rather than later, particularly if his goalscoring form continues to attract attention from other clubs.
